Women are key players in enforcing their rights and improving their position in society. focus women believes in the potential of women as forces of change. All around the world, women experience the impact of violence, discrimination and poverty to varying degrees. Women are aware of our planet’s vulnerability and the fragility of societies. They create new perspectives time and time again, and work to bring about change.

focus women assists women’s organizations and networks in the Global South and in Eastern Europe, where it supports projects created for women by women.

Breaking the cycle of violence

Five feminist activists have set an ambitious goal for themselves: they want to pick a new, unconventional way to break up the cycle of patriarchal violence against women and children that is deeply rooted and taken for granted by Peruvian society. They chose music as a means of com­munication for their message.

Rights for Palestinian women

Kayan is a feminist organization that has been advocating the needs and rights of Palestinian women in Israel, in the West Bank and in Gaza since 1998. The organization envisions a secure and just society free of gender-based or origin-based discrimination of women.

Women fighting for their land

Extensive mining is threatening the existence of many rural communities in Minas Gerais. The project supports women who are dedicated to human rights and an intact environment. They learn how to deal with the competent authorities and receive assistance in establishing their economic independence in the field of medicinal herbs and aroma therapy.

Initiating change 

Socially disadvantaged young women with little school education have no opportunities on the labour market and are at risk of slipping into poverty. In this program led by Amica Educa, 50 young women aged between 15 and 35 years receive the training they need to become fit for the labour market.
